Announcing the 2018 Siena Bistro Paella Fiesta Poster Contest

What do the Apple logo, paella and a soup kitchen have in common? They are all components of the first ever “Paella Fiesta” Poster Contest jointly conducted by Willow Glen’s Siena Bistro and Martha’s Kitchen. One of the judges will be Carlos Perez, creator of the Apple logo.

Siena Bistro Owner/Chef David Wiesner has converted his well-loved restaurant in Willow Glen one day every summer for the past six years into a Spanish Villa to host his annual Paella Fiesta and this year it takes place on July 14. The idea is to offer an all-you-can-eat spread of appetizing tapas and two featured types of paella, and bottomless white and red sangria. A portion of all proceeds from the event went to a nonprofit partner. Martha’s Kitchen in San Jose, an organization that has served more than 4,000,000 meals since its inception in 1981 has been this event’s nonprofit partner these past 4 years.

Chef David is pleased to announce that he will again be partnering with Martha’s Kitchen this summer – July 14, 2018 for their 5th joint Paella Fiesta fundraiser. “The Fiesta has become a popular event and our customers look forward to it and being associated with a great cause like Martha’s Kitchen makes it even more special,” he said. “We’ve been working with Edita Cruz, their Executive Director for awhile now, because we believe that they are doing incredible work. Hunger is a problem everywhere and San Jose is surely no exception, so we want to help whenever we can.”

Young artists between 13 – 17 years of age are invited to submit their original artwork for the chance to win bragging rights and prizes in the “Paella Fiesta” Poster Contest. The deadline for entries is June 1, 2018 and all artwork should be delivered to Siena Bistro during business hours.

Prizes will be awarded to the First, Second, and Third Place winners based on creativity, originality and quality of the artwork: Winners will have the bragging rights to this first poster contest of its kind. The First Place winner will receive two tickets to the Paella Fiesta on July 14th. The winning entry will be displayed at the “Paella Fiesta” event at Siena Bistro and featured at Siena Bistro’s and Martha’s Kitchen’s website. All winners will receive award certificates.

Edita Cruz explained that the contest “it is intended as one way to encourage students to become more aware of opportunities for community involvement.”

About the 2018 Siena Bistro Paella Fiesta

Most of the year, Siena Bistro in Willow Glen serves award-winning cuisine prepared and conceptualized by Siena’s Owner/Head Chef David Wiesner. But, on Saturday, July 14 from 5 pm to 10 pm, Siena Bistro is converting itself into a Spanish Villa, when Wiesner and his staff will host their 7th annual Paella Fiesta, featuring two types of paella, a wide range of appetizing tapas and all-you-can drink white and red sangria. A portion of all proceeds from the event will go to Martha’s Kitchen in Willow Glen, an organization that has served more than 3 million meals since its inception in 1981.

Chef David is excited to be putting on his Paella Fiesta for yet another summer. Last year the patio was rocking all night long and he’s anticipating an even better turnout this time around. “We’re presenting an incredible meal of all-you-can eat paella again this year and we’re also going to create some wonderful seasonal Spanish-influenced dishes,” Chef David explained. “A few years back, I took a culinary vacation to Spain and learned so much about paella, tapas and everything Spanish. I integrate much of what I discovered on that vacation into many of the dishes I serve at the Paella Fiesta.”

Chef David is also happy to support a cause like Martha’s Kitchen, an organization he has been helping for over 10 years. “We’ve been working with Edita Cruz, their Executive Director and we’re really pleased to be donating to Martha’s Kitchen.
